Scandinavia is known for its eco-friendly efforts, but Norway is really taking the lead when it comes to cutting motor emissions. According to recent data collected by the Norwegian Road Federation (OFV), almost nine out of 10 new cars sold in 2024 were fully electric. That’s 88.9%, up from 82.4% in 2023, showing how committed Norway is to going green on the roads.

With a population of just 5.5 million, Norway has embraced electric vehicles (EVs) faster than any other country. EVs now account for almost a third of all on Norwegian roads, and in Oslo, nearly every other car on the road is electric, setting the global standard for a sustainable future.

According to OFV, the top electric passenger cars of 2024 include Tesla Model Y, Volvo EX30, and Volkswagen ID.4. Christina Bu, head of the Norwegian Electric Vehicle Association says, “Norway will be the first country in the world to pretty much erase petrol and diesel engine cars from the new car market.”

Norway hasn’t banned petrol and diesel cars, but the country does impose high taxes on their purchase. Meanwhile, electric cars are exempt from VAT and import taxes, making “zero emissions” even more appealing. Making the decision to switch is also more convenient, since many Norwegian car dealerships only offer electric vehicles and most fuel stations have replaced petrol pumps with charging stalls.

Norway is ahead of the curve with plans for all new cars sold to be electric by 2025. Impressively, this goal will likely be reached well before the European Union’s target to ban the sale of new fossil-fuel cars by 2035.

Find out more about the data collected by the Norwegian Road Federation.

In 2024, electric vehicles made up 89% of new car sales in Norway, making the country a global leader in reducing motor emissions.

Honda is stepping into the future with its sleek, technology-packed 0 series. These electric vehicles signal a new era and rebranding for the car manufacturer, with many new design and technology features. The Honda 0 Saloon and Honda 0 SUV, which debuted at CES 2025 in Las Vegas, are expected to go to market in North America in 2026.

My Modern Met Co-Founder and Editor-in-Chief Eugene Kim was invited to Honda's Torrance, California, headquarters for a close-up look at both vehicles after initially viewing them at CES. Each car features sleek curves with an aerodynamic exterior. Inside, Honda has maximized space, a conscious choice built around the company's “thin, light, and wise” approach.

While one expects a large interior in an SUV, Honda's design choice really comes to life in the flagship Honda 0 Saloon. The car's sporty design and low cabin would make you think that a cramped interior awaits, but that is not the case. Honda has managed to create an interior that is surprisingly roomy for a car of this nature.

Both vehicles mark the debut of Honda's original vehicle operating system (OS), the ASIMO OS. Named after a humanoid robot Honda developed 20 years ago, the operating system will apply integrated management of electronic control units (ECUs) for vehicle systems such as automated driving/advanced driver assistance systems (AD/ADAS) and in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) system.

Thanks to over-the-air (OTA) updates, the car's functions and services will continually update to meet the driver's preferences. This makes the truly custom car ownership experience. In addition, Honda 0 vehicles will feature Level 3 automated driving, which allows divers to complete a second task while the vehicle oversees operation of the vehicle.

For added safety, Honda has developed technology to anticipate driving conditions and scenarios in order to eliminate collisions that “a human driver could have avoided.” They are also incorporating AI learning into the car in order to learn and improve upon the automated driving system.

And, of course, an electric vehicle must take its energy needs into consideration. Honda is already part of an automaker consortium that is expanding the number of charging stations across the United States, but Honda 0 will incorporate smart at-home charging technology to cut down on energy costs. Interestingly, the EV can also send electricity back to the power grid when it's in short supply, allowing owners to earn from their vehicles.

“The Honda approach to the art of making things has always been human-centric. The same is true with the 0 Series,” Katsushi Inoue, Honda senior managing executive officer, Electrification Business Development Operations shares at CES 2025. “Our EVs will offer ‘ultra-personal optimization' by thinking completely about the customer, and optimizing all details including precise control settings for vehicle dynamics.

“Like a smartphone, various functions of 0 Series models will continue to advance even after the purchase. The more it is used, the more personalized it will become.”

While a price point has yet to be revealed, Honda expects that both the Honda 0 Saloon and Honda 0 SUV will come to market in North America in 2026, with a global rollout shortly after.

If you've ever seen the Transformers films, you'll know that the protagonists (and villains) are alien robots designed to mimic mundane objects from afar, whether it be a car or a plane. Though they're all fictional characters, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas recently unveiled a new massage chair by Bodyfriend that seems inspired by the science-fiction franchise, bearing a striking resemblance to the beloved Autobots.

The 733 Massage Chair debuted last week at CES 2025, where it won a CES 2025 Honoree Award in Digital Health and immediately garnered attention with its innovative design. Most prominently, the chair features independently controlled arm and leg movement technology, making it the first of its kind worldwide. These functions allow for a wide range of exercises, whether it be single-leg stretching or arm rotations.

Beyond its impressive flexibility, the chair incorporates AI healthcare service functions, which monitor biometric data for disease prediction and health assessment via a dedicated app. A wireless Holter monitor ECG provides additional health insights, measuring cardiac conditions and stress levels.

It’s clear that each element of the 733 Massage Chair is crafted to maximize wellness, comfort, and rehabilitation. These extraordinary qualities contribute to the chair’s price tag of $20,000, while its biomimicry-inspired design stood out as Transformers-esque to CES attendees. Even its two colorways recall the Transformers: yellow for Bumblebee and red-blue for Optimus Prime.

The 733 Massage Chair is currently available for pre-order via the Bodyfriend website.

Designed by Bodyfriend, the 733 Massage Chair debuted at CES 2025, where it won a CES 2025 Honoree Award in Digital Health.

CES 2025 was packed with amazing new tech, but a few products really stole the show this year. Tokyo-based Yukai Engineering won everyone over with their adorable creations, like a fluffy robot companion that acts just like a real human baby. Another standout was a super cute, cat-shaped mini robot that’s as practical as it is charming—it cools down hot meals and drinks by blowing air on them.

Nékojita FuFu, the mini robot, is designed to clip onto your mug, plate, or bowl. It features a built-in fan powered by a unique algorithm called the “Fu-ing System,” which mimics how humans blow on hot food and drinks. By adjusting the fan’s direction and intensity through its tiny mouth, Nékojita FuFu can cool your meal or beverage to a comfortable temperature in under five minutes. The helpful cat robot even features various blowing modes, such as the full-force “I’ve Got This!” and gentler, steadier blows like the “Not Gonna Spill” mode.

The robot’s name is a clever blend of two concepts. “Neko-jita,” which translates to “cat tongue,” is a Japanese term used to describe people sensitive to hot food—a condition that, according to a 2018 online poll, affects nearly 47% of respondents in Japan. Meanwhile, “FuFu” is an onomatopoeia representing the sound we make when blowing on food to cool it down.

Nékojita FuFu came to life during Yukai Engineering’s 2024 Make-a-Thon. Chief Marketing Officer Tsubasa Tominaga shared that the idea was inspired by his own struggles a few years back, when he often found himself out of breath and dizzy from trying to cool down hot baby food for his son.

“We created Nékojita FuFu as a little personal meal partner, so you can solve your ‘néko-jita’ problem anywhere, anytime,” says Tominaga. “The robot doesn’t just help you enjoy hot coffee. It can make it easier for seniors to down hot soup and reduce parents’ chores by helping kids eat with less help.”

Yukai Engineering plans to launch Nékojita FuFu in Japan by mid-2025, with a price tag of ¥3,800 (around $25). Find out more about this cute product on the Yukai Engineering website.

Mirumi by Yukai Engineering

While some technologies are created to simplify our lives, others exist solely to bring us joy. Meet Mirumi—an adorable furry robot designed by Japanese company Yukai Engineering that playfully interacts with passersby.

Yukai Engineering’s team of engineers and designers came up with the idea for Mirumi during a “Make-a-Thon” in 2024. Their goal was to create a robotic yokai—a supernatural being—infused with the endearing qualities of a human baby.

With its large, cooing eyes and soft fur, Mirumi is sure to capture attention. It can attach to your arm, bag, or anything else, bringing a smile to anyone around you. However, its next move might surprise you. This sloth-like creature curiously observes its surroundings, responding to people or objects it detects with its built-in sensors.

Equipped with an inertial measurement unit (IMU), Mirumi can sense movements—whether it’s a tap on its body or the motion of a bag it’s attached to—adding an element of playful interactivity. It even bashfully hides its face and shakes its head to say, “no,” when jiggled.

“People often find great joy in sharing their own happiness with others. Mirumi is a robot that enables you to do just that,” Yukai Engineering CEO Shunsuke Aoki says. “Whether you’re riding a crowded train or standing in line at the cashier, your Mirumi will always find a way to reach into people’s hearts with its innocent gaze, prompting the person to wave at the robot or make a funny face in response.”

Yukai Engineering unveiled Mirumi at CES 2025 in Las Vegas, a trade show highlighting cutting-edge technologies of today, where visitors were left in awe of the adorable gadget pal. The team plans to launch Mirumi through a crowdfunding campaign later this year, aiming for a price point of $100.

Check out the adorable robot below and keep an eye on Yukai Engineering’s website for updates.

Ever since the introduction of AirTags, Apple users have been placing them in their luggage in case a suitcase is lost. However, until now, this has only been helpful to the owner, letting them know where their bag was when the airlines didn't. Apple has announced a new feature that will allow you to share your AirTag's location with your airline. In turn, airlines are implementing changes to use this information to reunite you with your bags.

With the new Find My feature Share Item Location, launching with iOS 18.2, you can share a link to your AirTag's location with anyone you want, letting them visualize an interactive map with the item location. The location will update automatically, with the website showing the timestamp of the latest location. Regarding airlines, Apple announced that it will be partnering up with more than 15 companies, which will begin accepting Find My item locations as part of the customer service process for misplaced and delayed luggage.

To keep your data safe, the nature of the link only allows for it to be viewed by a small group of people, with each being verified via an Apple Account or partner airline email address. Additionally, links are only active for a week and are disabled once you're reunited with your item. “Apple has worked directly with partner airlines to put systems in place to privately and securely accept Share Item Location, leveraging the hundreds of thousands of Apple devices many airlines are already using,” the company said in a statement.

Among the first airlines to join this initiative are United and Delta Airlines, alongside international carriers such as Aer Lingus, Air Canada, Air New Zealand, Austrian Airlines, British Airways, Brussels Airlines,  Eurowings, Iberia, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Lufthansa, Qantas, Singapore Airlines, Swiss International Air Lines, Turkish Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, and Vueling, with more airlines being added over time.

“We’ve worked closely with Apple to incorporate Share Item Location into our baggage recovery process and are excited to make this feature available to our customers soon,” said David Kinzelman, United’s chief customer officer, the first airline to announce their support for the feature. “We plan to accept Find My item locations in select airports initially, with the goal of introducing the service systemwide in early 2025.”

Of course, only AirTag users will have access to these perks. So. if you're a frequent traveler and haven't looked into getting an AirTag for your luggage, this may be the time to do it. It's also important to note that AirTags can't connect online on their own, so they don't offer real-time tracking. In reality, they rely on nearby iPhones and other Find My devices to share their location, showing only the latest timestamp available. Still, the information they provide will surely be a blessing when looking for a missing bag.

Many of us are familiar with tennis ball machines that launch balls at players, allowing them to practice their shots without a human opponent. The first versions popped up back in the 1920s, but fast forward over 100 years, and Hong Kong-based sports tech company PongBot has just launched something much more advanced: Pace S Series, the “world’s smartest AI-powered tennis robot.”

“Pace S Series is not just a tennis robot,” says PongBot on their Kickstarter campaign. “It’s your smart training partner.” The Pace S Series is powered by advanced AI technology and intelligent sensors that allow the machine to adjust its “serves” based on the player’s movement patterns. With built-in National Tennis Rating Program (NTRP) training modes, the tennis robot simulates a match-like training experience that helps players of all levels to quickly advance their skills. The Pace S Series will even determine your abilities and deliver shots tailored to your level.

The Pace S Series comes with an app and a remote that both allow you to select from over 300 pre-programmed drills or create your own. You can adjust parameters such as the ball landing point, ball speed, spin type, spin rate, and serve frequency for each shot. The machine holds up to 150 tennis balls, and its interchangeable battery lasts up to eight hours, allowing for uninterrupted training sessions.

The AI-powered tennis robot was trained on 100,000 live match data points, enabling it to analyze players' movements in real-time. It can even gauge when a player is ready to level up, adjusting the ball frequency and shot placements to offer a greater challenge. After finishing a drill, players can review their performance on the app, compare their stats with other players, and even share their custom drills.

Learn more about the Pace S Series on Kickstarter, where over 2,000 backers have already pledged more than $2 million, helping the campaign smash its goal.

St. Peter’s Basilica, one of the world’s most iconic landmarks, is now more accessible than ever thanks to a collaboration between the Vatican and Microsoft. They teamed-up with digital preservation company Iconem to create a stunning digital replica of Rome’s Renaissance-era church using 400,000 high-resolution images.

This groundbreaking project lets you explore St. Peter’s Basilica in breathtaking detail through a virtual 3D tour. Over four weeks, drones, cameras, and lasers meticulously captured every inch of the basilica and its surroundings. The team then used advanced AI algorithms to piece together the data, bringing the sacred site to life online like never before.

St. Peter’s Basilica is the the largest church in the world, but it’s also one of the busiest, with around 50,000 visitors passing through its doors every day. And with the Vatican’s 2025 Jubilee approaching, an extra 30 million pilgrims are expected to visit. For those that want to beat the crowds, this new virtual experience allows people from around the globe to explore the iconic site from the comfort of their home.

Pope Francis praised the project, thanking everyone involved for their efforts to preserve St. Peter’s Basilica and make it accessible to more people. “Everyone, truly everyone, should feel welcome in this great house,” he told Microsoft President Brad Smith during a Vatican press conference.

The project does more than open up St. Peter’s Basilica to a global audience—it’s also helping to protect it. The ultra-detailed images uncovered hidden issues like missing mosaic pieces, cracks, and tiny fissures that would’ve been impossible to spot with the naked eye, all with incredible speed and accuracy.

“This house of prayer for all peoples has been entrusted to us by those who have preceded us in faith and apostolic ministry,” Pope Francis said. “Therefore, it is a gift and a task to care for it, in both a spiritual and material sense, even through the latest technologies.”

First Ever Artwork Created by a Humanoid Robot To Go On Auction Sells for Over $1 Million

Many believe that only humans can truly create art. But as technology rapidly advances, there’s a growing debate over whether AI-generated art should be respected—and even valued—just as highly. Just last week, on November 7, a portrait of mathematician Alan Turing became the first artwork created by a humanoid robot to be sold at auction, fetching an impressive $1.08 million at Sotheby’s, New York.

The portrait of Turing, titled A.I. God, was created by Ai-Da, an AI-powered robot introduced in 2019 by British art specialist Aidan Meller. Named after Ada Lovelace, the woman thought by many to be the world’s first computer programmer, Ai-Da is celebrated as “the first ultra-realistic humanoid AI robot artist.” The work pays homage to Alan Turing, the pioneering mathematician whose work laid the foundation for modern computing and artificial intelligence.

Although A.I. God was initially estimated to fetch up to $180,000, a series of 27 bids drove the price over $1 million, with an anonymous buyer ultimately securing the one-of-a-kind piece. Sotheby’s said in a statement, “Today’s record-breaking sale price for the first artwork by a humanoid robot artist to go up for auction marks a moment in the history of modern and contemporary art and reflects the growing intersection between AI technology and the global art market.”

Ai-Da first came up with the idea to create A.I God during a discussion about “AI for good” with others in her studio. She then decided on the style, color palette, tone, and texture of the piece, and used the cameras in her eyes to process an image of Alan Turing as a reference. With her robotic hand, Ai-Da then painted on a small canvas, and the completed image was later enlarged using a printer.

A.I God was exhibited in 2024 as part of a five-paneled polyptych at the United Nations during the AI for Good Global Summit in Geneva. Alongside her portrait of Turing, the polyptych included a self-portrait of Ai-Da herself and a painting of Ada Lovelace. The haunting, fragmented portrait of Turing not only honors his legacy but also invites us to think about how technology is reshaping human life and creativity. Ai-Da, who uses AI to speak, said her art “invites viewers to reflect on the God-like nature of AI and computing while considering the ethical and societal implications of these advancements.”

A portrait of mathematician Alan Turing created by humanoid robot Ai-Da recently sold for $1.08 million at Sotheby’s, New York.
